Workforce Development and Social Service Providers
Workforce development is managed differently by each social service provider. For example, educational institutions, public, and private providers develop workforce development programs and policies from the potential of maintaining sustaining economic security of the individual. In contrast, communities and economic developers handle workforce development from a philosophy that is beneficial to the sustainable economic growth of a community or a region. Employers focus on workforce development from an organizational perspective, concentrating on the skills their organization or business necessitates in order to remain competitive.
Sustained economic growth yields low unemployment, labor shortages, and a directness for employers to hire disadvantaged workers. Society views workforce development from the perspective is defined as initiatives that educate and train individuals to accommodate the requirements of current and future businesses and organizations in order to support a viable competitive economic environment. The initiatives within the societal perspective are coerced by the economic development plan for a complete region or state.
The Center believes that employees should remain competitive and it is through each of these perspectives that this can occur. From the organizational perspective, workforce development can be defined as training programs that offer existing and potential employees with the skills to complete tasks necessary by employers to allow organizations to remain competitive within a global arena. Initiatives of the past have mainly focused on the necessities of individual businesses. Currently, many initiatives target a specific industry or an array of professions by employing a deep understanding of professional dynamics and the specific competitive situation and those needs of the workforce of industry employers within the region.
